Finishes and profiles: the real 2025 trends compared with the forecasts

Material minimalism, textures inspired by nature, brushed metals, black details and warm tones: 2025 confirmed that interior design is no longer just a matter of aesthetics, but a language of emotions and identity. We have seen finishes emerge that can evoke atmospheres, add depth to spaces and modulate natural light. But how much of this could really have been predicted?

The most loyal readers of our Minuta Profile magazine will remember that, at the beginning of the year, we published an article dedicated precisely to the forecasts for trending finishes in 2025. An analysis born from observing international trends in architecture and design, enriched by our daily experience in the world of finishes.

If, instead, you are new readers, passionate about interior design and architectural details, you can find the January article here, to compare it with what you will read in the next lines.

What we had predicted, and what truly took hold

At the beginning of 2025, we had focused on the rise of non-polished metallic finishes, such as brushed stainless steel and matte brass, on the refinement of sand tones and on a general trend towards tone-on-tone combinations. And the data confirms that these forecasts have largely become reality. Brushed AISI 304 stainless steel profiles, in gold, rose and titanium finishes, attracted steady interest throughout the year, especially in high-end residential projects.

Sand finishes, on the other hand, achieved more targeted success. They became established in contexts that favour a natural and warm aesthetic, often paired with stone-effect or wood-effect tiles. But they did not explode as much as we had imagined: demand remained strong but selective, as if the market had welcomed them with enthusiasm, without turning them into a mainstream choice.

Another element we had anticipated was the growing attention to the integration between profiles and natural light. This proved to be absolutely central. Projects focused on the elegant invisibility of details, such as slim terminal profiles or minimal corner guard profiles, increased, and the concept of “invisible luxury” entered the vocabulary of many interior designers.

The surprises of 2025 and what did not take off

Among the trends we had not predicted so strongly, the decisive return of matte black stands out, even in less industrial environments. If we initially thought it was a declining trend, reality proved us wrong: black profiles were chosen to create strong contrasts even in warm and natural spaces.

By contrast, some trends we expected to be stronger did not establish themselves as predicted. Polished brass, for example, had a limited impact, often being set aside in favour of more understated finishes. And pastel colours, which were expected to emerge in contemporary contexts, remained on the margins, giving way to more neutral and earthy palettes.

In summary, 2025 rewarded balance: projects that chose profiles consistent with the identity of the space, without chasing trends but instead creating dialogue with the materials, are the ones that left their mark. Finishes were not loud protagonists, but silent details that build value over time.
